Grade Rules - MAPLE & CHERRY BEECH
Dressing A - Graded to best face
Clear timber on one face and both edges allowing the following:
Pin knots - a natural attractive characteristic.
Bark Streak - appearing occasionally to a maximum of 6mm wide x 100mm in length per board. The back of the board may contain sound defects each to a maximum of 30mm in diameter and occasional sound bark pockets longer than 30mm.
Grain - Curly grain is permitted and will machine cleanly after dressing.
Length Specification: 900mm to 4.8m allowing up to 25% of the total lineal metres in 900mm, 1.2m and 1.5m, with an average length 2.4m.
SQUARES GRADE
A mix of Dressing A and Factory Grade. The ratio is a minimum of 60% Dressing A and 40% Factory Grade. Sizes produced in Squares Grade are 65 x 65mm, 75 x 75mm 100 x 75mm and 100 x 100mm.
FACTORY GRADE - GRADED TO BEST FACE
Each piece must be capable of yielding Dressing A cuttings which are not less than 450mm long, up to 2.1m long, averaging 1.5m clear cutting.
Clearwood recovery of 75 - 80% of the total length of the board is achievable.
Length Specification: 900mm to 4.8m.
SELECT APPEARANCE - GRADED TO BEST FACE
This grade is high in feature content with sound smaller tight knots and other characteristics of good appearance.
The number of knots or characteristics is limited to ensure a good appearance board.
Knot size is generally 15mm to 40mm in diameter to a maximum of 50% of the board width.
Occasional combination bark pockets and knots are permitted providing they do not detract from the overall appearance of the board and providing the wood on either side of these defects will yield to grade and commercial length.
Grain - Curly grain is permitted and will machine cleanly after dressing.
Length Specification: 900mm to 4.8m allowing up to 25% of the total lineal metres in 900mm, 1.2m and 1.5m, with an average length 2.4m.
ANTIQUE PINHOLE GRADE
A feature grade comprising approximately 60% Dressing A grade and 40% Select Appearance. This grade is high in pinhole content and colour variation and is ideally suited and used extensively for flooring and panelling in villa restoration, new bars & restaurants and craftwood products such as antique mirror frames sea chests and food trays. (Note - Pinhole is a result of the Platypus Beetle feeding on live wood of the standing tree. After milling and kiln drying there is no live beetle present in any sawn timber).
Length Specification: 900mm to 4.8m allowing up to 25% of the total lineal metres in 900mm, 1.2m and 1.5m, with an average length 2.4m.
