Showcasing New Zealand's flora and fauna, as well as its culture and heritage was a key focus for the design team behind the Novotel Auckland Airport hotel. So, too, was the need for sustainability.

The selection of Southland maple beech solid timbers and veneers from Lindsay & Dixon met both requirements. The company also had to provide a guarantee that the timber supply was third party certified and compliant with NZ Greenbuild Council guidelines.

Lindsay & Dixon's solid maple beech timber and veneers feature throughout the hotel, in both the public area and guest rooms. In the reception and bar areas, the maple beech panelling is reminiscent of a Maori feather cloak. In the conference room the panelling references traditional Maori taniwha patterns. A sleek, contemporary finish was specified for the joinery in the guest rooms.
